University of New Mexico professor of architecture Tim Castillo discusses his role as the director of the UNM Office of Community Engagement, which was recently recertified with the Carnegie Foundation Classification for Community Engagement. Castillo discusses his background that led him to this role as well as the kind of work that comes out of OCE and all the different ways the office assists the community. Tim B. Castillo

Tim B. Castillo is a Professor of Architecture at the School of Architecture and Planning at the University of New Mexico. Professor Castillo is currently the Director of Community Engagement Initiatives at UNM and the Director of Historical Preservation and Regionalism.  Professor Castillo has held several leadership roles including Associate Dean at the School of Architecture (2016-2019) and the Director of the Art, Research, Technology and Science Laboratory (2008-2016) an interdisciplinary digital media laboratory at the university. In the summer of 2015, he co-founded the Finding Rural/Plata Studio design program. The program was established as a partnership between several higher education institutions and community partners across the state and region to explore how architecture and design play a role in economic development.

Cameron Goeldner is a senior public relations specialist on The University of New Mexico’s Communication and Marketing Team (UCAM). In addition to his work producing It’s (Probably) Not Rocket Science, he also produces stories, photos and videos for the UNM Newsroom.

Goeldner, who attended UNM, won multiple New Mexico Press Association Awards while at the Valencia County News-Bulletin before a stint designing newspapers, including the Denver Post, for MediaNews Group. As the newest member of the UCAM team, Goeldner is excited to help spread the word about the incredible research happening at The University of New Mexico.
