Tamalewood: The Sparkling Cinematography of Colonization in the New Southwest

Gabriela Guajardo is a Chicana/o Studies MA Candidate and recent winner of UNM's LoboBites. She will represent the university at the regional 3 Minute Thesis Competition this April. She is a National Poetry Slam Champion and has been ranked the tenth best woman poet in the world. Her book, big feelings, is a Small Press Distribution Bestseller. Her one-woman show of the same title made its international debut at the 2024 Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland. She made her feature film debut at the Cannes Film Festival as Gloria in Ari Aster’s Eddington with A24, appearing alongside Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal and Emma Stone. Her newest collection of poetry, Without the Frills, features poems about her experience working in the NM Film Industry along with her devotion to the sunset and dedication to preserving New Mexican stories and those of our lost loved ones.
